The “4th watch of the night” refers to the final watch of the night in the traditional division of timekeeping. In ancient times, the night was divided into four watches, each lasting approximately three hours. The fourth watch, therefore, began around 3:00 AM and ended at sunrise.
The fourth watch was considered a time of heightened spiritual significance in many cultures. In the Christian tradition, for example, the fourth watch is associated with the time of Jesus’ resurrection. It is also seen as a time of prayer and meditation, as it is the time when the darkness of night begins to give way to the light of day.
